Care Guide

How to Care for Your Jewelry

Jewelry is not only a beautiful accessory but also an investment that requires proper care and maintenance. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your jewelry remains in excellent condition for years to come.

  1. Timing is everything: Remember the rule of "first off and last on." Put on your jewelry after you have finished all personal grooming, such as clothing, makeup, nails, hair styling, and perfume. This prevents any chemicals from these substances from damaging your jewelry. Additionally, removing your jewelry before undressing or removing makeup prevents accidental damage.

  2. Remove jewelry during strenuous activities: Prior to engaging in any vigorous physical activity, including workouts, yoga, dancing, or heavy lifting, always take off your jewelry. These activities can subject your jewelry to excessive stress, increasing the risk of damage or loss.

  3. Take off jewelry before bed: To prevent blankets or other objects from catching on prongs and potentially causing damage, it is recommended to remove all jewelry before going to sleep. This precaution also minimizes the risk of accidentally hitting your rings against the headboard and causing damage.

  4. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from substances such as chlorine or bleach, as they can degrade and weaken the metal composition. Even the chemicals present in nail polish remover, perfume, and hairspray can be damaging to certain gemstones. Take care to shield your jewelry from exposure to these substances.

  5. Store jewelry properly: When not in use, store your jewelry in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause certain gemstones to fade or undergo undesirable color changes, just as it can harm your skin. Proper storage will help maintain the vibrancy and beauty of your jewelry.

  6. Protect the center stone of your ring: To preserve the clarity and shine of your ring's center stone, remove it before washing your hands with soap, showering, or applying lotion. Soap and lotion residues can accumulate over time, diminishing the stone's brilliance and causing it to appear cloudy.

  7. Restoring clarity to cloudy stones: If your stone does become cloudy, you can take some steps to restore its brilliance:

  • Polish the stone using a lint-free, 100% cotton cloth.
  • Gently brush the stone with a soft toothbrush and hot water water mixed with dish soap.
  • Note: Avoid using a brush to clean turquoise or pearl stones; instead, use your fingertips.
  • Check that the stone is still securely set before and after cleaning, especially if using a steam cleaner.
  • Never use an ultrasonic cleaner on micro-pavé stones, pearls, emeralds, or turquoise.

By following these precautions and guidelines, you can protect your jewelry, keep it looking its best, and reduce the need for frequent visits to a jeweler. Taking proper care of your jewelry will ensure that it remains safe, sturdy, and radiant for many years to come.
